The Oxymoron of Dental Insurance
In the 1960’s a group of California dentists formed a dental insurance company called the California Dental Service, which later became Delta Dental. Later came the PPO’s the HMO’s to which I call them the OhOhOhs’s (uhoh OO’s). The CEO’s of these OhOhOh’s get paid many millions of dollars each year. The dentist doesn’t get paid much and the patient gets little in the way of services. The best comparison I have for dental insurance plans is that they are like a prepaid phone card:
The benefits stops when the minutes run out.
So why is Dental insurance the number one reason oral health is so bad in this county?
If you have dental insurance, it pays for very little. The reason? The amount of “minutes” available for you to purchase have not increased much since the 60’s. If you don’t have dental insurance, you don’t get your teeth fixed because you don’t have any “minutes.” So in the end, nobody wins.
With that in mind, I have 3 very important questions I’d like you to think about:
- Would you like something better than dental insurance or PPO?
- Would you like to be able to budget your dental services?
- Would you like to save money on dental services?
We offer a new solution—DenVantage.
Imagine getting rid of deductibles, claim forms, yearly maximums and excluded services. You can get coverage that fits your needs, not a list of options to choose from. This is a membership plan.
So, if you need gum treatments you get it. If you have tooth disease, you get coverage. If you need cleanings, x-rays and exams, there is a monthly fee that covers them. When treatment is needed, there are multi-dollar discounts for each procedure.
It’s about time we look at dental care through a new lens. Now, we have “uninsurance” that changes the way we look at keeping your teeth happy and healthy.
